Story World

Aug 12th – 16th, 2024

Ages: 6-11

Stories are how we connect to the world around us. Yet many kids have fallen out of love with books and reading stories. In this camp, we invite them to fall in love with written stories again, even pushing them to create their own stories. This summer camp will be a laid-back invitation into the world of stories that even the fiercest hater of reading will find hard to ignore. We know how many kids struggle with reading, which causes them to stop wanting to read. Our goal is to help them fall back in love with books without the heavy pressure to read them. Students will experience different types of stories, come up with their own stories, act out well-known fairy tales, listen as books are read to them, and have the chance to look through books without the academic pressure to read them. We will also include some light phonics instruction, outside time, games, and social-emotional learning.

Full-Day camp runs from 9 am to 3 pm. Half-Day Mornings run from 9 am to 12 pm. Half-Day Afternoons run from 12 pm to 3 pm. In the mornings, students will focus on a different type of written story. In the afternoons, they will learn how to create a story and the different parts needed. Students in both the morning and afternoon will receive a snack and outdoor time. Full-Day students will also have time to eat lunch which parents are welcome to pack or pay a small fee for.
